It's here everyone it's here. The Alpha and the Omega has arrived! I've been excited for this day since I found out about this album 3 and a half months ago. The new album from The War on Drugs is out today. I'm listening to it right now as I Type. I can't possibly pick a favourite song.

Album: Blank Realm - Grassed Inn

Blank Realm
Blank Realm - Grassed Inn
Label: Fire Records

The first thing to say about Blank Realm's new album is it's not for everybody. Me... I love it. I only write about things I love.

If you're a fan of "The War on Drugs" (who by the way are about to release a new album), then you should love these guys too. I honestly haven't really listened to the lyrics all that much so far. I'm just so mesmerized my the fantastic song structure. My favourite tracks so far are: "Back to The Flood", "Violet Delivery" and "Reach You on The Phone"

Song: Johnny Cash - She Used to Love Me a Lot

Hey, have you heard the new Johnny Cash Song? Not a typo: NEW... Johnny... Cash... Song. Further more, he has a new album coming out next month.

I've never really been into the "Man in Black" but may have to re-consider after hearing this new song. As it turns out, this song and ultimately the album were recorded way back in the 1980's and was only recently discovered in the Cash family vault.

The one song that's been leaked so far is great "She Used to Love Me a Lot". If the rest of the album is this good, we may have a 2014 top 10 contender here:

Album: Patterns - Waking Lines

Patterns
Waking Lines
Label: Melodic

It's early in the year and not much has been released. But... of the small selection out there, the latest album by P"Patterns" stands out. I don't have a favourite song. The whole album is pretty solid all around.

Album: Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - Wig Out at Jagbags

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks
Wig Out at Jagbags
Label: Matador

Every Tuesday I check out a few of my favourite music sites to see what the latest new Releases are. Of course, it's early in the year so not much has been released yet. But one album that seems to be on every site I check out was an album by Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks. It's very reminiscent of 90's indie rock. I know because I use to play a ton of it on my radio show back in the day.

I don't think this will be on my year end list but it's worth a mention as it seems to be getting buzz elsewhere. On Tuesday, I'll tell you about my favourite album of the year so far.

Cover Song: Bye Bye Love (The Everly Brothers)

Happy New Year! Today, I was going to start reviewing new albums for 2014... I'll start that Thursday. But, I just came across a great cover song, and one that is very timely.

If you haven't heard, Phil Everly died last week. He of course was one half of the famous "Everly Brothers" of the 1950's and 60's.

Canadian Musician Hannah Georgas has done a fantastic cover of their 1957 hit "Bye Bye Love". This is absolutely in the top 10 covers I've ever heard... maybe even top 5. It's totally worth a listen:
